As spring arrives in the capital, the mountains and valleys around the Great Wall now see a growing expanse of flowers, presenting one of the most spectacular spring landscapes in Beijing. Check this out!

Recently, Juyongguan's Flower Sea Boardwalk opened to the public as scheduled, with Chinese wild peach and apricot blossoms in full bloom across the hills. Line S2 (a suburban railway line) meanders its way through the flowers and the Great Wall, hence the trains on it are known as "trains bound for spring".

The boardwalk features five viewing platforms and a gentle slope with no steep inclines or tall steps, making it suitable for hikers of all ages. Each platform provides a unique view, including close-ups of the trains, the S-curve of the flower expanse, and panoramic vistas of the Great Wall.

Visitor Guide

Opening Period: March 21–April 19, 2026

Visiting Hours: 7:00–17:00

(The boardwalk is open to the public free of charge and no ticket is required, with a daily visitor limit of 1,500 people.)

To meet citizens' demand for spring outings, a new schedule for Line S2 trains was adopted on March 26 and will be in effect until April 12. Seven pairs of trains will be operating on the weekend (March 28–29) prior to the Tomb Sweeping Festival holiday and during the holiday (April 3–7), while five pairs will be running on other days.

From late March to the end of April, Chinese wild peach and apricot blossoms adorn both sides of the Badaling Great Wall. You will see a stunning array of flowers on the surrounding mountains, perfect for social media photos, especially from North Watchtowers No. 2 and No. 4. The path leading down from North Watchtower No. 4 is lined with dense apricot trees on both sides, thereby reputed as the "most beautiful descending route of the Great Wall".

At Badaling Station of Line S2, you can board the train for a unique ride across a floral world.

Mutianyu Great Wall

Peach and apricot blossoms are currently blooming along the Mutianyu Great Wall. It's recommended to take the cable car from the North Ticket Gate directly to Viewing Platform No. 14, where you can snap a photo at Haohan Stone (好汉碑) and admire the mountain blossoms inside the wall. You can head west to Watchtower No. 20 for a panoramic view of Mutianyu, or head east to Watchtower No. 4 (also known as "Zhengguan Tower"), an excellent spot for flower viewing and photography.

From March 28 to April 19, the Mutianyu Great Wall International Mountain Flower Festival will take place. Featuring parades of performers in traditional costumes, robot dance performances, traditional folk music shows, intangible cultural heritage snacks, and creative cultural products, this event will make Mutianyu a perfect destination for delicious food, fun activities, and stunning sights.

This is the only section of the Great Wall that runs alongside water. From late March to the end of April, there will be Chinese wild peach, apricot, pear, and lilac blossoms blooming in succession, all creating a breathtaking landscape.

The maglev track and glider airships started operations on March 18, while the valley train and aerial floater on glass resumed operations on March 20. So, come and experience the exclusive spring activities at the Lakeside Great Wall!

Shuiguan Great Wall

The Shuiguan Great Wall, a spectacular part of the eastern Badaling section, is situated at the mouth of a rugged valley. The 2026 Great Wall Apricot Blossom Festival started there on March 26 and will run until April 12. In addition to marveling at the blossoms, visitors can participate in spring-themed DIY workshops, or attend lawn concerts every Saturday and Sunday.

From late March to late April, apricot and peach blossoms bloom in full splendor along the Simatai Great Wall. The juxtaposition of blossoms next to the ancient walls creates a poetic landscape. Unlike the refined flowers in the small town nearby, the wild flowers here are brimming with vitality.
