Beijing's 7.8-kilometer-long Central Axis has a rich and illustrious history of over 750 years. Along the Central Axis are several historical buildings, contemporary architectural complexes, artistic parks, and hutongs. A chill walk along this axis is something delightful in this early summer, through which you can get a glimpse of the local culture and trend.

Wudaoying Hutong

Gray tiles, red doors, mendun'r (gate piers outside traditional courtyard homes in Beijing), birdcages, and pigeon whistles… Wudaoying Hutong still retains the allure of Beijing in its old times. In addition, this neighborhood has several classy eateries, unique boutiques, cafes, handicraft shops, etc.

Gulou Street

There are lots of well-connected hutongs, stores of time-honored brands, and a range of typical local snacks along Gulou Street. At Gulou Park, you will find a dazzling array of gastronomical choices, along with chic bars and vintage accessory shops. The park is also an ideal place to pose for pictures in photo studios in Hanfu (the traditional attire of the Han ethnic group).

77 Cultural and Creative Park

This park was once an obsolete factory of Beijing Offset Printing Factory. Many young people come here to take photos of the well-preserved industrial relics, including the ancient smokestack and hot foil stamping machines.

Longfu Temple

Built in 1452 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the temple used to be the venue of the capital's cultural temple fair known for its books and high-end artworks. Nowadays, it is home to a book club, a cafe, a restaurant and a flagship store for ski brands. Co-working spaces made from former factories are also available.
