Guo Shoujing Memorial Hall is located in the Huitong Temple in Xihai Wetland Park, Shichahai, Xicheng District, which is near the dock at the north end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Guo Shoujing, great scientist of the Yuan Dynasty, finally completed the project of the Grand Canal, as well as the canal for water transport to Dadu (capital of the Yuan Dynasty).
The Exhibition One displays important events in a timeline to introduce Guo Shoujing's whole life. The other three exhibition halls show the planning basis and layout of Dadu, the historical development of Beijing, the water system of Dadu, as well as the problems encountered by Guo Shoujing during the construction of the Grand Canal and the solutions. The exhibitions, chronologically, present Guo’s great contribution to the Beijing part of the Grand Canal.
Moreover, a public reading space opened recently in the tourist reception room on the left side of the entrance of the memorial hall, with many picture books and professional books related to the memorial hall, the Grand Canal, and the City of Beijing. Besides, study manuals combining education and entertainment, free limited edition tickets, and other materials are also offered to visitors.
In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the memorial hall also holds special activities during the holidays every year, such as the Grand Canal-themed photography exhibition.
