BUCEA's 2025 Program: Walking along the Central Axis, Exploring the Ancient Capital's Spine

Introduction

The Beijing Central Axis and its surrounding buildings, as outstanding representatives of historical architecture and urban layout both in China and abroad, embody profound national history and cultural significance. The project "Walking along the Central Axis, Exploring the Ancient Capital's Spine" leverages architectural digital modeling technology. By focusing on themes such as the evolution of the Beijing Central Axis and the preservation of architectural cultural heritage, the project employs diverse formats including lectures, field research, and digital modeling practices. It guides students to delve into the history and culture of the Beijing Central Axis, offering a comprehensive understanding of the historical process of Chinese urban development and contemporary societal features.

 

Program Schedule

Time: From May to July 2025, mainly taught in English.

Formats: About 10 thematic lectures and field researches
Main Directions: The development of the Beijing Central Axis, the protection of the cultural heritage of the Beijing Central Axis.


Enrollment Categories

Long-term Participants: Full attendance in lectures and fieldwork is required. Eligible for a completion certificate and a souvenir upon meeting requirements.

Short-term Participants: Participation in select lectures/activities (no certificate and souvenir).

 

Admission Requirements and Quotas

International students in Beijing who are 18 years old or above and hold ordinary foreign passports are eligible. Proficiency in English communication is required.

15-20 quotas available. Enrollment is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Application Materials and Fees

Application Materials: Submit the application form (attachment) and relevant materials required in the form to the email liuxuesheng@bucea.edu.cn.

Fees: The relevant costs generated by the project are supported by the funds of the project. Participants do not need to pay any fees.

Application Deadline: April 30th, 2025

 

What will you get?

Knowledge: Gain an understanding of the culture of the central axis, architectural features, and digital protection technologies for historical buildings.

Achievements: Create a digital model or 3D - printed work of on - site cultural relics (small sculptures) that you are interested in.

Accomplishments: Obtain a completion certificate issued by Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
