The Chinese Language Program serves to promote the Chinese language throughout the world and to help people in other countries acquire a better understanding of China. Any qualified foreigner, overseas Chinese, or compatriot from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan may apply to Foreign Student Affairs Office, Tsinghua University for this program. The academic year is divided into two semesters: Spring semester: Feb-Jun; Autumn semester: Sep - Jan. Each semester consists of 18 weeks (20 class hours per week, 4 class hours per day, Monday to Friday). The courses are taught by instructors from The International Chinese Language & Culture Centre (ICLCC), Tsinghua University. In order to accurately assess the Chinese proficiency of new students, ICLCC arranges a placement exam at the beginning of each term. Students will then be assigned to appropriate class levels in accordance with their Chinese proficiencies.

Admissions

Any foreigner, overseas Chinese, or compatriot from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan may apply directly to the Foreign Student Affairs Office of Tsinghua University. The applicants need to have a formal education background at the high school level or above, a good moral character, be aged 18-55 and in good health.

Tuition & Fees

Ⅰ. Application fee (non-refundable): CNY ¥400 

Ⅱ. Tuition fee: CNY ¥10, 500 / per semester

Ⅲ. Accidental injury and hospitalization insurance: CNY ¥300 / per semester

Entrance Examination

Admission is evaluated on the basis of material review.

Programs

Regular courses: Speaking, Listening Skills, Comprehensive Chinese, Extensive Reading, Intensive Reading, Newspaper Reading, Grammar, Classical Chinese, Chinese Culture, Chinese Affairs, and Writing. The program delivers 20 class hours per week.
