BUCEA's 2024 International Student Enrollment Guide for Non-Degree Language Training Program

Beijing University of Civil Engineering & Architecture (BUCEA), which originated from the Capital Elementary Industrial School in 1907, got its current name with the approval of the Ministry of Education, P. R. China in 2013. It is a multidisciplinary university focusing on engineering, especially known for architecture. The university was approved as a Master's degree-awarding institution in 1986 and a doctorate-awarding institution in 2018. It has also been approved to establish post-doctoral research stations for architecture and civil engineering. The university has over 10,000 students. It has formed a comprehensive and multi-level education system from undergraduate, master's to doctoral students, from full-time to international students, and adult education.

The university insists on an opening-up policy and extensively carries out international exchanges and cooperation. In 2017, it initiated the establishment of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium. Currently, 84 colleges and universities from 28 countries have joined, making important contributions to continuously deepen the Belt and Road cooperation, as well as comprehensively promote the infrastructure construction of the Belt and Road partner countries, the training of international talented minds, the collaborative innovation of science and technology, and the cultural exchanges.  


I. Program Introduction

1. One-Academic-Year Language Training Program:

The duration of study is one academic year. Students are admitted in September each year. The class will start after the number of the students reaches five.

2. One-Semester Language Training Program:

The duration of study is one semester. Students are admitted each year in autumn (September) or spring (March). The class will start after the number of the students reaches five.


II. Eligibility of Applicants

1. An eligible applicant should be a non-Chinese citizen with a valid ordinary foreign passport.

2. An eligible applicant shall be no less than 18 years old and no more than 28 years old (as of September 1, 2024).

3. An eligible applicant shall be a high school graduate and have a high school diploma with good academic performance.

4. An eligible applicant should be physically and mentally healthy and have no criminal record. After enrollment, applicants are not allowed to engage in any internship program or work except for academic requirements by BUCEA.

June 16, 2024 (application will not be accepted after the deadline)

 

IV. Application Procedures

Every applicant shall apply via the Online Application System for International Students of BUCEA (http://apply.bucea.cucas.cn/) by filling in information and uploading application materials. Applicants are expected to check their online application accounts and emails regularly, as BUCEA's Admissions Office may contact them via email when necessary.

 

V. Application Documents

Every applicant must provide true and correct information in all application documents submitted to the online application system:

1. Please complete the Application Form for International Students in the online application system, in Chinese or English.

2. A high school graduate shall submit the scanned version of his/her graduation certificate, while a graduating high school student shall submit the certificate of enrollment or pre-graduation certificate issued by the school (a high school diploma must be obtained before September 2024).

3. Academic Transcripts (for high school studies)

(1) A graduating high school student should submit academic transcripts for each year of high school to date.

(2) A high school graduate should submit a complete set of academic transcripts for high school.

(3) The results report of the student's national college matriculation exam or internationally accepted standardized tests.

4. Language Proficiency Certificate

An HSK4 qualification certificate (application auxiliary materials, non-essential materials).

5. A scanned copy of a valid passport. The passport should be valid through December 31, 2024.

6. CV or resume, completed in Chinese or English.

7. A Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in Chinese or English, bearing the stamp of the hospital. Physical examination results are valid for six months.

8. A non-criminal record certificate.

9. Applicants can provide proof of awards or scholarships, and proof of participation in academic activities as supplementary materials.

Notes:

(1) All the application materials in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by their original copies and their notarized translations in Chinese or English. It is advised to have the original copies and their translations notarized at the Chinese Embassy in the applicant's home country. Please stamp on the edges of all sheets with part of the impression on each sheet if the document consists of more than one page.    

(2) Every applicant is expected to submit a complete set of application materials and will be held accountable for the authenticity of their documents. Incomplete or forged materials will be rejected.

(3) In general, there is no need to mail original hard-copy materials through courier service. However, under extraordinary circumstances, BUCEA reserves the rights to require applicants to mail original hard-copy documents for further review and identification. No application materials will be returned, regardless of the outcome of the application.

 

VI. Admission and Selection

1. Verification of Eligibility 

There will be a comprehensive review of the applicants' materials.

2. Interview and Assessment

Schools will conduct remote video interview assessments (via ZOOM or Tencent Meeting) for the overseas students who pass the eligibility verification, focusing on students' language communication and comprehensive quality, etc. Offline interviews may still be arranged for students who are in China. Please refer to email for the details of interview arrangement.

3. The best applicants will be selected according to the results of eligibility verification and interview.

Applicants can check their admission results on the website of the International Development Research Institute (School of International Education) (http://idri.bucea.edu.cn/) during July and August. Admission letters and visa application forms for study in China will be sent out in accordance with the immigration policy.

 

VII. Fees

1. Tuition Fees (charged per academic year in CNY, excluding the cost of course materials)

(1) One-Academic-Year Language Training Program: CNY 18,000/year

(2) One-Semester Language Training Program: CNY 10,000/semester

2. Other Expenses

(1) Accommodation: Double bedroom: CNY 60/day/bed; Triple bedroom: CNY 40/day/bed

(2) Living Cost: Around CNY 1,000-1,500 per month (estimate based on personal consumption level)

(3) Medical Insurance: For the safety of international students in China, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and BUCEA, every international student is required to purchase medical insurance costing CNY 800/year. Please refer to the enrollment instructions for detailed information of medical insurance.

 

VIII. Application for Scholarships and Review

Our school has freshman scholarships to subsidize the full tuition for one academic year. (For those enrolled in the One-Semester Language Training Program, the scholarships subsidize the full tuition for one semester).

The International Student Scholarships Jury will adhere to the principles of standardization, objectivity and fairness to select scholarship applicants.

Scholarship applicants must abide by the law, respect teachers, have good moral character, study diligently, be friendly with classmates, actively participate in group activities, attend the classes on time and complete all the credits of the courses required for the previous academic year with good grades. What's more, applicants should have paid all tuition fees and meet the requirements of other relevant rules and regulations.

 

IX. Monitoring, Complaints and Action for Misconduct

1. Under the guidance of the University's Student Recruitment Leadership Group, BUCEA's international student recruitment is jointly conducted by the BUCEA Admissions Office and the relevant schools/colleges and is subject to the monitoring of the BUCEA Supervision Division. 2. Applicants are responsible for the truthfulness and accuracy of the information and documents they have submitted. New students' admission qualifications will be rechecked upon their entry to BUCEA. Failure to meet the admission regulations for international students or any falsification or misrepresentation will result in disqualification of enrollment in accordance with the regulations of the educational authorities and BUCEA.
