Universities across Beijing have recently introduced quiet pods, each with distinctive features. Compact yet multifunctional, the pods offer spaces for phone calls, online interviews, and discussions, meeting the everyday needs of students and faculty.
Renmin University of China
At the university library, all the audio booths have been converted into quiet pods. The original audio equipment has been replaced with desks and chairs, while the lighting and ventilation systems have been upgraded. The pods are now perfect spaces for online interviews and spoken English practice.
In addition, the university has upgraded the software for 78 quiet pods on its Tongzhou Campus. Students can now access the pods using a physical campus card, a virtual campus code, a mobile NFC, or a dynamic access code. — bringing quiet spaces within easy reach.
Beihang University
Beihang University has installed two-person discussion pods and single-person phone booths in the library on its Xueyuan Road Campus. These facilities cater to specific needs while preserving the library's overall quiet atmosphere.
China Agricultural University
An interactive trial product called "AI Study Pod" has been introduced in the first-floor lobby of the university's East Library.
The AI Study Pod offers a range of practical functions. AI-powered mock interviews and spoken English practice help students prepare for common interview questions and improve language skills. An AI career-planning assistant can suggest personalized career paths based on each student's strengths and interests. An AI stress-relief assistant provides emotional support and guidance. An AI reading assistant recommends books and videos tailored to users' interests to help them engage more deeply with their reading.
University of Science and Technology Beijing
Unlike conventional study spaces, the university library has installed compact, chair-free single-person quiet pods designed for short activities that involve speaking aloud.
The pods feature soundproofing that helps reduce noise from both inside and outside. Built-in soft lighting meets the needs of online interviews, reading, and using electronic devices. Independent silent ventilation ensures a fresh and comfortable environment for short-term use.
Minzu University of China
Minzu University of China has introduced a variety of study pods for individuals and groups of four or six.
Students can meet to discuss research plans, work together on group assignments, and brainstorm ideas. The pods also support online academic meetings, phone interviews, and remote thesis defenses, with microphones and screen sharing available throughout. They allow students to switch seamlessly between individual study and group collaboration.
China University of Petroleum, Beijing
The former storage space in the university's main library has been converted into private, personalized study rooms.
The university furnished the space with 38 sets of desks and chairs, complemented by artificial greenery. It is equipped with single-person and four-person quiet pods to meet diverse needs such as individual study and group discussions. Air conditioning and fresh-air systems ensure a refreshing and comfortable learning environment.
