Description:
The China Agricultural Museum is China's only national-level museum for the agricultural industry. It was designated as a National First-Class Museum in 2012. The museum is a large garden-style one covering an area of 430,000 square meters. The indoor exhibition area spans 6,600 square meters, while the outdoor garden covers nearly 100,000 square meters.
The museum was officially opened in September 1986. It now has a permanent exhibition themed "Chinese Agricultural Civilization", along with thematic displays focusing on agricultural science popularization, Chinese soil specimens, Chinese traditional agricultural tools, and colored pottery, respectively. It houses a rich variety of items of eight distinct categories: ancient agricultural books, traditional farm implements, colored pottery artifacts, agricultural tickets and certificates, agricultural publicity paintings, Gaomi New Year paintings, soil specimens, and wax fruits, totaling 140,000 items and sets.
CAM took the lead in applying for the inscription of the "Twenty-four Solar Terms" on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. It also undertook the "Collection, Compilation, and Research of Ancient Agricultural Books in China", a major project of the National Social Science Fund of China. In recent years, the museum has curated various temporary exhibitions, including "Century of Great Achievements, Triumphant Chapters in Agriculture ", "A Decade in Agriculture", "Chinese Farming Culture Exhibition", "Twenty-Four Solar Terms Exhibition", "The Theme Exhibition of China Important Agricultural Heritage Systems" and "Chinese Sericulture and Silk Culture Exhibition". It has also actively introduced colorful traditional farming culture experiences and science popularization activities.
