In a Fantastic Style
The Shanghai Camerata Celebrates Vivaldi and His Contemporaries
19:30 | Wednesday | Oct 20 | The Red, Taikoo Li Sanlitun North
Ticket (CNY): VIP200
Before Vivaldi, the infallible Republic of Venice had come to an end. However, while its political and military power was declining, its musical influence was radiating across Europe. To some extent, the northward spread of the Stylus fantasticus, which originated in Venice, across the Alps changed the direction of the development of European instrumental music in the 17th century. A Venetian active in the 18th century, Vivaldi's instrumental style was quite different from the "fantastic style" of the last century, but it also swept the whole Europe. In Bach's and Telemann's music, we can often recognize traces of Vivaldi.
This concert features works of Vivaldi, his predecessors and his peers: Bach, Telemann, Marais, among others. Even in Baroque's heyday, there were significant regional differences in music style. The wide circulation of music and the reciprocal influence between music styles could never offset distinctive regional characteristics. This concert guides you through the soundscapes of 18th-century Europe.
