Located at the foot of the Longevity Hill in Haidian District, Beijing, the Tower of the Fragrance of the Buddha is the tallest building in the Summer Palace. It faces the Kunming Lake and the Hall that Dispels the Clouds in the south and is backed by the Sea of Wisdom Temple, a Buddhist building, in the north. Climbing up the tower, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the scenic surroundings. In the later years of the Qing Dynasty, on the first day and fifteenth day of the lunar month, Empress Dowager Cixi would go to the tower to pray and burn joss sticks.
