The Guomao Underbridge area had long been plagued by traffic congestion, disorganized management, poor environmental conditions, and limited functionality. In March this year, a comprehensive renovation project was initiated, led by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Management, and the Chaoyang District Government, with collaboration from departments including the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau, the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau of the Beijing Public Security Bureau, and relevant companies.

After the renovation, traffic efficiency in the area has significantly improved. During morning peak hours, the vehicle flow at the Guomao Bridge intersection increased from 4,873 vehicles per hour to 6,642, while that during evening peak hours rose from 5,160 vehicles per hour to 6,163. Travel speeds improved accordingly, with a ten percent increase in the south-to-north direction during morning peak hours and a four percent increase during evening peak hours. Bus traffic also saw marked improvement with optimized routes. For example, the outer-ring Dabeiyao South Station was divided into two platforms, redistributing 43 percent of the bus routes and effectively alleviating congestion. The problem of non-motor vehicles encroaching on motor vehicle lanes has been addressed. The east-west crossing time for pedestrians has been cut from 120 seconds to 76 seconds, marking a 37 percent increase in efficiency. Overall, traffic order has become more organized.

The environmental quality has been enhanced. With 38,000 square meters of green landscape, a new 1.1-kilometer Meandering Corridor, and carefully designed nighttime lighting, the Guomao Bridge has transformed from a mere transportation hub into a vibrant urban landscape, becoming a new leisure destination for people working and living nearby. The clean and aesthetically pleasing exterior of the bridge harmonizes with the surrounding commercial buildings, significantly enhancing the overall visual appeal of the area.
