Recently, the Office of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has released the first batch of typical cases of urban renewal. Two projects in Shijingshan District have been selected, specifically, the renewal project of Shougang Old Industrial Zone (North Section) was selected as a case of vibrant neighborhoods, and the protection and renewal project of Moshikou Historical and Cultural Block was selected as a case of urban historical and cultural heritage protection and inheritance.

The renewal project of Shougang Old Industrial Zone (North Section) is located on the north extension of Chang'an Street, with a planned area of 291 hectares. At the end of 2015, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympics settled in Shougang, marking the beginning of the comprehensive renewal and transformation of the Shougang North Section. The project aims to preserve and restore the industrial heritage while breaking away from the traditional path of real estate development, creating a new landmark for the revitalization of the capital city. The Winter Olympics presents a unique opportunity to enhance the comprehensive service capabilities of the urban service provider by transforming and upgrading the old industrial zone. The project utilized a layered and graded approach to protect and utilize industrial heritage, introduce an enterprise commitment system, and innovate the approval mode for the transformation of industrial buildings. Additionally, the project optimized the planning indicators and developed a comprehensive plan for their implementation in Shougang North Section.

The protection and renewal project of Moshikou Historical and Cultural Block is located in the central part of Shijingshan District. The block boasts two national-level cultural heritage sites, two municipal-level cultural heritage sites, and 17 district-level cultural heritage sites, as well as 37 valuable courtyards. Since 2020, the block has adopted a symbiotic model and created a 1,000-square-meter "Jingxi Ever-changing Courtyard" as a public space for Moshikou's citizens, which has significantly improved the appearance of the street. The block has integrated housing resources using the mode of "fixed rent plus vacation with compensation". It has also established a special action headquarters for comprehensive environmental improvement and a "Meeting Room for Moshikou's Residents" to facilitate the environmental improvement work. The traditional courtyards have been adjusted and upgraded into diversified formats, bringing commercial vitality to large-scale boutique cultural courtyards. Meanwhile, the small shops along the street have enriched the lively atmosphere of the block.
