Recently, 57 journalists from 50 foreign media outlets, including Malaysia, India, and Thailand, visited Beijing Yeya (Wild Duck) Lake National Wetland Park.
In the park, journalists were captivated by the picturesque wetland scenery. Meanwhile, within the heron breeding area, both grey herons and purple herons are currently in their breeding season. A flock of eastern spot-billed ducks, mallards, and ruddy shelducks are frolicking on the surface of the lake while raptor ospreys and great cormorants are soaring through the sky. Northern lapwings and Mascarene coots can be seen darting amongst the reeds.
"I'm glad to be here today, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the remarkable ecological protection achievements of Yeya Lake. It's like they're living proof that humans and nature can coexist in perfect harmony," said a journalist from Romania.
Subsequently, 57 media journalists observed birds around the lake in the park from south to north. Journalists strolled along the wooden plank road, chatting with each other and clicking pictures of the surroundings. Apart from bird-watching, journalists also visited the Youth Nature Education Observation Station to witness the creative process of reed paintings and experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture. Speaking of his experience in China, a journalist from Gambia remarked, "I observed China is developing very well in many aspects. The most impressive thing to me is that China is doing perfectly well in nature conservation. Yeya Lake is serving as an excellent platform for safeguarding valuable wildlife."
The Yeya Lake National Wetland Park is surrounded by the Yanshan Mountains to the north, the Taihang Mountains to the south, the Guanting Reservoir to the west, and the Badaling Great Wall to the east. In 2013, it was approved by the China National Tourism Administration (the later Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China) as a national 4A-level scenic spot. In February 2023, the park was successfully included in the updated List of Wetlands of International Importance. It is not only the largest wetland nature reserve in Beijing Municipality but also one of the nature reserves boasting the most diverse range of wildlife species in Beijing Municipality.
