The foreign spouse of a Chinese citizen or the spouse of a foreigner who has obtained permit for permanent residence in China may apply for permanent residence, provided that he/she, upon application and prior to the date of application, has been married for five years and resided in China for at least five consecutive years with no less than nine months each year, enjoys stable living guarantee and residence, abides by the laws of China, enjoys good health and has no criminal record.

1. 2 2-inch front bareheaded white or light blue background colored photos and electronic photo (submitted in CD).

2. Photocopy of passport and valid visa used for 5 consecutive years prior to the date of application.

3. Photocopy of the "Marriage Certificate" (if married abroad, the "Marriage Certificate" shall be certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country, or the certificate issued by the embassy or consulate of their country in China shall be submitted, and the time the certificate is issued and the time the certificate is certified by the Chinese embassy in the foreign country shall be within 6 months prior to the date of acceptance).

4. Photocopy of the spouse's identity certificate (Chinese spouse's resident ID card and Beijing household register of the spouse of Chinese nationality, or foreign spouse's valid passport and "Foreigner Permanent Resident ID Card").

5. Photocopy of the notarized house lease or property right certificate. For property not owned by the applicant and his/her spouse, a notarized declaration of consent of the owner of the property to the residence of the applicant shall also be provided. If the applicant leases another person's housing property, he/she shall provide a notarized lease contract with a lease period of more than 1 year from the date of application (the notarization shall be issued within 6 months prior to the date of acceptance).

6. Photocopy of notarized bank deposit certificate. The amount is RMB 100,000 yuan or above, frozen for more than 6 months; if the deposit certificate is owned by the spouse, the spouse shall issue a notarized statement of willingness to provide living guarantee for the applicant (the notarization shall be issued within 6 months prior to the date of acceptance).

7. Photocopy of the certificate on no criminal record in foreign country (all countries or regions that the applicant has resided continuously for more than 2 years before the date of application) (the certificate shall be certified by the Chinese embassy (consulate) in that country, or submit a certificate issued by the embassy (consulate) of that country in China, and the time the certificate is issued and the time the certificate is certified by the Chinese embassy (consulate) in the foreign country shall be within 6 months prior to the date of acceptance).

8. Photocopy of the physical examination certificate issued by the health and quarantine department designated by the Chinese government or by a foreign medical institution certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country (the exit-entry health and quarantine department designated in Beijing is the Beijing International Travel Health Care Center, and the certification shall be issued within 6 months prior to the date of acceptance).

9. An applicant who had Chinese nationality before shall provide the photocopy of the certificate of eligibility for foreign settlement, the naturalization paper or the household certificate transcript, and the Chinese passport used for naturalization.

10. Resumes of both husband and wife (from the age of 18 till now, the year and month shall be consecutive).

1. Certificates issued by relevant foreign institutions shall be certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country.

2. Materials in foreign language must be translated into Chinese, and the translation company's official seal shall be affixed to the translation.

3. The original must be reviewed before submitting a photocopy, and a photocopy of A4 size shall be provided.

4. If the applicant needs to print the Chinese name on the "Foreigner Permanent Resident ID Card", he/she shall clearly indicate whether to print the Chinese name in the "Other Matters to be Explained" column on the application form.

5. An applicant who has not canceled the household registration in China shall apply after canceling the household registration.
