On March 20, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission officially released the 2023-2024 academic year calendar applicable to different categories of schools. Let's take a look at it.
I. Standard Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Secondary Vocational Schools
First Semester of Compulsory Education:
Semester starts on Friday, September 1, 2023;
Semester ends on Friday, January 19, 2024, a total of 20 weeks and one day;
Winter vacation from Saturday, January 20 to Sunday, February 25, 2024, a total of five weeks and two days.
First Semester of Non-compulsory Education:
Semester starts on Friday, September 1, 2023;
Semester ends on Friday, January 26, 2024, a total of 21 weeks and one day;
Winter vacation from Saturday, January 27 to Sunday, February 25, 2024, a total of four weeks and two days.
Second Semester of Compulsory Education:
Semester starts on Monday, February 26, 2024;
Semester ends on Sunday, July 7, 2024, a total of 19 weeks;
Summer vacation from Monday, July 8 to Saturday, August 31, 2024, a total of seven weeks and six days.
Second Semester of Non-compulsory Education:
Semester starts on Monday, February 26, 2024;
Semester ends on Sunday, July 14, 2024, a total of 20 weeks;
Summer vacation from Monday, July 15 to Saturday, August 31, 2024, a total of six weeks and six days.
II. In case of force majeure, Beijing Municipal Education Commission will discuss and make modifications to the academic year calendar according to relevant regulations. The modified calendar will then be released promptly after the approval of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, the People's Government of Beijing Municipality and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
III. In the event that the Beijing Municipal Emergency Response Office issues a red warning for heavy air pollution or other red warnings for extreme weather, the education commissions of each district shall take corresponding measures and guide local primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in relevant work according to the actual pollution situation and the relevant requirements of the Emergency Plan of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission for Heavy Air Pollution (revised in 2018).
IV. After-school educational institutions in Beijing may refer to the calendar and draft academic calendars respectively based on their actual situations and the characteristics of after-school education.
V. All adult institutions of higher learning and adult secondary vocational schools may, in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education and the requirements of the competent departments, formulate academic calendars based on their actual conditions or refer to the above-mentioned dates.
VI. All ordinary institutions of higher learning may formulate their academic calendars in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education and their actual conditions.
