Beijing will implement new traffic restrictions based on the last digit of motor vehicle license plate numbers from June 29 to September 27, 2026.
Vehicles with license plate numbers ending in 1 or 6, 2 or 7, 3 or 8, 4 or 9, 5 or 0 are prohibited on public roads on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, respectively. Vehicles with license plate numbers ending in letters will be considered as ending in 0.
In summary, on the following days, vehicles with license plates ending in the following numbers are prohibited from public roads:
Monday: 1 or 6
Tuesday: 2 or 7
Wednesday: 3 or 8
Thursday: 4 or 9
Friday: 5 or 0
Vehicles Exempt from the Restrictions
1. Police vehicles, fire engines, ambulances, and emergency rescue vehicles;
2. Public electric buses, inter-provincial long-distance passenger vehicles and large coaches, Beijing-registered taxis with license plates beginning with "京B" (excluding rental vehicles), postal service vehicles, tourist coaches holding valid operating permits issued by the municipal traffic administration, as well as commuter buses and school buses approved by the municipal traffic management authority;
3. Official law-enforcement vehicles with standard markings, and dedicated tow trucks;
4. Specialized vehicles used for sanitation, landscaping, road maintenance, emergency telecommunications support and funeral services;
5. Vehicles with diplomatic license plates ("使") and approved temporarily imported vehicles;
6. Pure electric passenger vehicles (powered solely by rechargeable batteries).
