Passengers who take the subway in Beijing before the morning peak hours are eligible for a 50-percent discount on ticket fares. At Tongyun Men Station on Line 6, which officially opened on June 30, passengers passing through the fare gates no later than 7:00 can enjoy the off-peak fare discounts. With the addition of Tongyun Men, the number of subway stations offering off-peak discounts has risen to 25, covering Batong Line, Line 6, and Changping Line.
To ease peak-hour congestion, Beijing Subway introduced off-peak discounted fares at the end of 2015. The discount policy applies to passengers who pass through fare gates no later than 7:00 on weekdays (not weekends or statutory holidays). Any passenger who enters by tapping a Yikatong card (Beijing Municipal Administration Traffic Card) at a designated station during the discount period receives a 50-percent discount off the original fare when exiting at any station across the rail transit network (except the stations of the Capital Airport Express and the Daxing Airport Express). This discount can also be stacked with Yikatong's base discount policy for additional savings. For any passenger who has missed an off-peak discount due to station crowd control, security checks, or other operational contingencies, no retroactive compensation will be provided.
In addition to off-peak early morning discounts, Beijing Subway also implements a monthly cumulative fare discount policy. According to the base discount policy of Yikatong, passengers using the same cards for rail transit are eligible for tiered discounts within each calendar month. When the cumulative spending reaches 100 yuan, a 20-percent fare discount (i.e., 80 percent of the standard fare) applies from the next trip onward. When the spending reaches 150 yuan, a 50-percent fare discount applies. Once the cumulative spending reaches 400 yuan, no further discounts are granted. All the cumulative spending amounts are reset at the end of each calendar month, and the calculation starts again the following month.
