On July 5, the newly constructed section of the Jingmi Expressway (from Taiyanggong North Street to Jingping Expressway) officially opened to traffic. It becomes another major transportation artery in the northeast of Beijing's central urban area, complementing the existing Airport Expressway and the Jingcheng (Beijing-Chengde) Expressway. The improved route is expected to significantly relieve traffic congestion in the surrounding areas, especially by easing the transit traffic pressure on the Airport Expressway. According to test drives, it now takes just eight minutes to drive from Sanyuanqiao to the Sunhe area in free-flow traffic conditions.
The newly opened section of the Jingmi Expressway stretches 10.3 kilometers, running from Taiyanggong North Street in the south to the Jingping Expressway (the southern line of the Airport Expressway) in the north. The road runs parallel to the Capital Airport Expressway, the Capital Airport Express Subway Line, and the Subway Line 15. Its main line features a six-lane dual-carriageway configuration design with a speed limit of 80 km/h and achieves an about 81 percent bridge-to-road ratio. This high-efficiency design will significantly cut travel time to downtown areas and boost overall traffic flow along the corridor.
With the Jingmi Expressway now operational, drivers traveling between Pinggu and Shunyi districts can bypass the Airport Expressway entirely. By entering via the northside ramp at Taiyanggong North Street, they gain direct access to the Jingmi Expressway. The entire route is free of traffic lights and toll-free.
