Beijing, a city intertwined with antiquity and modernity, is stunning the world with its vigorous development momentum! Let's take a look at the highlights of Beijing in 2024!

In this year, Beijing's capital functions have been fully optimized and upgraded. The Beijing's Central Axis has now successfully applied for World Heritage List, upping the count of the city's World Cultural Heritage Sites to eight, the highest number among cities worldwide. Strolling along Beijing's Central Axis, from the magnificent Forbidden City to the solemn Temple of Heaven, you will be enveloped by the charm of history, with every brick and stone telling the story of the ages, and showcasing China's profound cultural heritage to the world.

In this year, the economic development was trending in a positive direction, and improving month by month. The city's regional gross domestic product (GDP) grew by approximately 5.2%, general public budget revenue increased by 3.1%, the surveyed urban unemployment rate was around 4.1%, per capita disposable income of residents grew by about 4.5%, the consumer price index rose by 0.1%, and multiple indicators such as per capita regional GDP, energy consumption, water consumption, and carbon emissions per 10,000 yuan of regional GDP remained among the best in China's provincial-level regions.

In this year, the momentum for high-quality development continued to strengthen. Notable achievements were made in the construction of the Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center. Beijing received 58 National Science and Technology Awards, accounting for 28.7% of the national total; with 431 scientists being highly cited, ranking first among the global cities; and it also ranked among the top three in the list of the world's top 100 science and technology clusters published by the World Intellectual Property Organization. Additionally, Beijing led all cities in China in terms of the number of national high-tech enterprises, national-level specialized and new small giant enterprises, and unicorn companies.

In this year, the quality of people's lives further improved. Efforts to deepen the battle against air pollution were intensified, overcoming adverse meteorological conditions such as dense fog with stable atmospheric conditions in autumn and winter. The annual average concentration of fine particulate matter reached 30.5 micrograms per cubic meter, a decrease of 6.2%, with 290 days of good air quality, an increase of 19 days. Beijing ranked first nationwide in the assessment of the effectiveness of pollution prevention and control campaigns.
