On October 30, the School of Statistics at Renmin University of China released the Chinese Modernization Index Report 2024. The report comprehensively evaluates the progress of Chinese modernization across five dimensions: economic, political, cultural, social, and ecological modernization. Beijing has led the list for four consecutive years.
As reported, the overall index of Chinese modernization has risen from 73.9 to 75.4 over the past four years, reflecting a steady growth. In this year's rankings, Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Tianjin, Fujian, Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Chongqing stand out as top performers. Notably, Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhejiang have each surpassed 80-point mark in the index.
The report shows that the eastern region is leading China's social modernization, and Beijing is the only area with a social modernization index exceeding 80, demonstrating its robust comprehensive development capabilities.
