Inbound Visits to Beijing in First Three Quarters in 2024 Triples Year-on-year

According to Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, from January to September 2024, Beijing recorded a total of 2.719 million visits made by inbound tourists, indicating an increase of 207.8 percent year-on-year; the city's tourism sector achieved USD 3.41 billion in foreign exchange revenue, rising by 168.5 percent year-on-year.

In terms of the composition of inbound tourists received by Beijing, from January to September, the tourists from Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and the Taiwan region of China made a total of 505,000 visits, accounting for 18.6 percent, while foreign visitors made a total of 2.214 million visits, accounting for 81.4 percent. Among them, 909,000 visits were made by tourists from the rest of Asia (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of China), 761,000 were from Europe, 347,000 were from the Americas, 80,000 were from Oceania, and 83,000 were from Africa. Regarding the major tourist source countries, the United States ranked first with 280,000 visits, followed by Russia (203,000), Japan (137,000), and Germany (131,000).

Statistics show that overseas tourists visiting the Chinese mainland tend to have multiple stops and in-depth tours during their stays, with Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Guilin, and Shanghai and several other famous cities being the top choices. In addition, most tourists opt to stay in Beijing for three nights and four days, or four nights and five days.
