In response to the expanding number of countries included in China's visa-free entry policy and the corresponding rise in tourists from abroad, Alipay has sought to make its app more accessible. It now provides services in 16 languages – in addition to the original Chinese and English, users can now access the app also in Arabic, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese. This allows tourists from more countries to get by with a single mobile phone when traveling in China.
Taking Italian as an example, users can operate on an Italian interface whether they are scanning (scanning the merchant's QR code to pay) or being scanned (presenting their QR code for the merchant to scan). Other common travel services, such as hotel booking and translation tools, can also be translated into Italian with a single click, meaning travelers from abroad can continue to use their mobile phones in the language of their choice.
Alipay's new service will benefit travelers from countries eligible for visa-free entry, including France, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Spain, and Thailand, to name just a few.
