Illuminating the night on December 31, 2023, the Gongbei Pavilion in Shijingshan District unveiled a light sculpture display – a "clock countdown" and a "Happy New Year" message at midnight on January 1, 2024.

As a landmark in Shijingshan District, Gongbei Pavilion opened its doors to the public for the first time after renovations, commencing its trial run on January 1, 2024. The inaugural exhibition, "Encountering Classics", showcased Jin Shangyi's classic printmaking artworks and invited visitors through a ticket reservation approach to ensure a smooth experience.

Perched atop Shijingshan Mountain, the ancient cultural architecture complex traces its origins back to the Jin and Tang dynasties, embodying a mix of Buddhist and Taoist structures. Between 1983 and 2018, Shougang Group added multiple structures to the site, completing the Gongbei Pavilion in 1993 and shaping the current architectural landscape.

Looking ahead, the Gongbei Pavilion aims to evolve into a comprehensive cultural and tourism hub featuring diverse experiences, including art exhibitions, cultural and creative displays, light meals, and entertainment.

Li Wei, the director of the Shijingshan Ancient Architecture Complex Conservation Office, detailed the setup: the first floor houses the exhibition area, the second floor showcases Shijingshan's classic cultural and creative works, and the third floor offers a scenic retreat. In addition to the Gongbei Pavilion, the broader restoration of the Shijingshan ancient architecture complex is ongoing, with plans to open gradually as conditions permit. Simultaneously, plans are underway for staircases and trails on the mountain. That will offer residents a chance to hike and savor panoramic views of the capital.

Gongbei Pavilion's trial run spans January 1 to January 31, 2024, with a daily limit of 150 tickets during exhibition days.
