Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control has issued five health tips for the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday.

Currently, Beijing remains in the midst of a high-occurrence season for respiratory infections. Recent monitoring data indicates that Influenza B virus has surged to represent 88.5 percent of cases in the past week, emerging as the predominant strain. Despite the prevalence of the influenza epidemic at a notably high level, there is a gradual decline in the number of infections.

Moreover, the current COVID-19 situation is at a low level of prevalence. Over the past week, the positivity rate for COVID-19 among influenza-like cases in sentinel hospitals stood at 1.8 percent, with the XBB variant being the prevalent strain. Notably, the JN.1 variant's proportion is steadily increasing, signifying a gradual upward trend in the overall COVID-19 situation.

Five Health Tips

Get vaccinated

Eligible citizens, including seniors and those with compromised immune systems, are encouraged to proactively receive the COVID-19 vaccine containing the XBB antigen. Once diagnosed with a COVID-19 infection, it is advised to promptly take small-molecule drugs.

Raise awareness of disease prevention

Individuals returning to their hometowns and travelers during the Spring Festival are advised to take personal health precautions and pay attention to food hygiene.

Wear a mask properly

When visiting medical institutions or elderly care facilities, wear a mask. It is also recommended to wear a mask when using public transportation or entering crowded places.

Keep your hands clean

Maintain good hand hygiene by washing hands after returning home, before meals and after using the toilet, and before and after touching your eyes, nose, or oral cavity.

Monitor your health conditions

If symptoms such as fever, cough, or sore throat arise, take appropriate measures such as resting at home, taking medication, or seeking timely medical treatment. In case of worsening conditions or a significant exacerbation of underlying health issues, seek immediate medical assistance.
