Beijing is embracing the expansion of foreign-funded research and development (R&D) centers. Recently, the fourth batch of foreign-funded R&D centers in Beijing have been released, recognizing 34 enterprises in the fields of medicine and health, information technology, and intelligent manufacturing. Up to now, the total number of foreign-funded R&D centers in Beijing has reached 107.
The "foreign-funded R&D center" refers to institutions that are fully or partly invested in by foreign investors and whose primary business is outside of China. The institutions are established in China in accordance with Chinese law. Their business scope includes R&D and experimental development in the natural sciences and their related scientific and technological fields, including intermediate experiments serving R&D activities. As China continues to open up, foreign-funded R&D centers have become an integral part of the overall localization strategy of multinational corporations in China and serve as important vehicles for promoting cross-border flow and global allocation of innovation factors.
