2023 Beijing International Week for Science Literacy Kicks off in Shougang Park, Shijingshan District

On September 17, adhering to the concept of "Working Together for Common Development", the 2023 Beijing International Week for Science Literacy opened in Beijing.

The event lasted for nine days and included the following sections: the launch ceremony and keynote speeches, the International Science Museum Directors Dialogue, the Annual Meeting of Beijing Global Network of Science Festivals and Beijing International Science Festival Roundtable Conference, the International Conference of Science and Technology Teachers, the exchange sessions for the development of adolescent science education, the Northern China Science and Technology Museum Development Forum and other thematic parallel forums.

At the opening ceremony, Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST), Global Times and GMW.cn signed strategic cooperation agreements to jointly strengthen international communication and shape a new pattern of mainstream public opinions on science and technology as well as science popularization. Beijing Science Center signed inter-institutional and institution-targeted strategic cooperation agreements with Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the China Society of Natural Resources to jointly promote the innovative development of diversified science education.

With the permanent theme of "Working Together for Common Development", the event is an invitation for international science and technology exchanges from BAST to the world and is also a cooperation platform jointly built and shared by the global science communication community. Li Jinghai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chairman of BAST, said in his welcome speech that the event is one of the important actions taken by BAST to promote the development of Beijing into an International Science and Technology Innovation Center and an International Exchange Center, and that BAST looked forward to taking this event as an opportunity to promote better exchanges and mutual learning, better co-construction and sharing of international science communication, and benefit the world more with cutting-edge scientific knowledge.

This event is also one of the important components of the International Exchange Section of the 20th National Science Popularization Day. During the event, an international science popularization exhibition was also held, displaying science popularization works from many countries and regions, along with a series of matchmaking and promotional sessions featuring the science popularization resources from around the globe to facilitate the sharing of more science popularization resources.

During the event, the organizers also released four significant reports, and representatives from Canada, China, and Italy gave keynote speeches themed "Digital Literacy and Future Education".

This year's event is hosted by BAST, organized by Beijing Science Center (Beijing Youth Science and Technology Center), Beijing International Science and Technology Exchange Center, Beijing Science Popularization Development and Research Center, and the Graduate School of Education of Peking University, and supported by the Chinese Association of Natural Science Museums, and the China Council for G20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance.
