On July 25, China Great Wall Museum held an announcement on the acquisition of cultural heritage items and public acceptance of social donations, as an official acquisition campaign for cultural heritage items at home and abroad.
At the event, Announcement on the Cultural Heritage Items Acquisition of the China Great Wall Museum was officially released. The acquisition campaign of cultural heritage items involves seven major aspects, including material craftsmanship, shape pattern, construction management, construction techniques, historical development, ancient books, archive catalogs, topography and other physical objects, photographs and documentation, construction tools, etc., which showcase the construction and development of the Great Wall site in each historical period of ancient China.
Located in The Great Wall of Badaling Scenic Area, Yanqing District, Beijing, the China Great Wall Museum was officially opened in September 1994. It is a thematic museum showcasing the history, military, architecture, economy, culture and art of the Great Wall and its current situation with the theme of the Great Wall of China.

Announcement on Collection of Cultural Relics
Of the China Great Wall Museum
The renovation and upgrading project of the China Great Wall Museum is a national landmark project of the Great Wall National Cultural Park (Beijing section). It has been launched with the approval of the Beijing Leading Group for Promoting the Construction of National Cultural Centers. In the future, the China Great Wall Museum will develop into a national museum that displays and interprets the history and culture of the Great Wall, a highland that spreads the spirit of the Great Wall, a place for nationwide cultural research on the Great Wall, and a state-level platform for international cultural exchanges and mutual learning on the Great Wall.
To display the history and culture of the Great Wall and explore its cultural resources, it is necessary to improve and form a collection system of cultural relics related to the Great Wall for optimizing the structure of existing exhibitions. Therefore, the China Great Wall Museum is openly collecting cultural relics at home and abroad. It is hereby announced as follows:
1. Range
(1) Objects, photos, documentation, and construction tools preserved from the construction and development of the Great Wall in various historical periods of China, reflecting materials and crafts, patterns and drawings, construction management, construction techniques, historical evolution, rare ancient literature, archives and catalogs, rubbings and imprints, etc.
(2) Material evidence showing the Great Wall as a military defense system in Chinese dynasties.
(3) Material evidence demonstrating major events, figures, and works around the Great Wall, on sectors including warfare, economy, trade, cultural exchanges, and literature and art.
(4) Material evidence and intangible cultural heritage achievements related to the description and dissemination of the Great Wall culture and spirit, including books, newspapers and periodicals, promotional materials, printed posters, art works, handicrafts, flags, coins, video materials, digital materials, literary works, and daily utensils created on the theme of the Great Wall in different periods.
(5) Results of oral history and anthropological fieldwork on the Great Wall.
(6) Material evidence related to natural environment, environmental resources, and geological features, including hydrology, geology, and products.
(7) Other evidence of exhibition and research value and with significant historical information.
2. Conditions
(1) Donors shall guarantee the ownership of the donations is clear and the source is legal.
(2) The collector shall provide effective and convenient contacts such as mailing address, email, and phone numbers, and offer forms for donors to put down relevant information of their donations when agreeing to donate.
(3) The collector shall conduct an open, standardized, and professional review on donations, and present results to donors in a timely manner. The approved donations will be collected and certified by the China Great Wall Museum. Those not approved but with a certain value will be taken as donations with a donation certificate. Those not meeting the criteria for collection or donation will be returned to donors with a commemorative certificate.
3. Means
(1) The collector shall formulate collection procedures for cultural relics in accordance with laws and regulations including the Law of the People's Republic of China on Protection of Cultural Relics, Procedures for Collections of State-owned Museums, and Museum Regulations, organizing a review committee to conduct open, fair and impartial reviews.
(2) The China Great Wall Museum is a non-profit organization, advocating donors to donate at no charge.
(3) Rewards. For significant collections that the donor is unwilling to donate after negotiation, the collector shall reach a consensus with the donor based on the expert opinions of the review committee before collection, giving material rewards as it depends.
(4) Authorization. If both fail to reach a willingness to donate but agree to imitate or copy, they can sign a copyright authorization agreement after reaching a consensus.
(5) Leasing. If both fail to reach a willingness to donate but agree to lease, they can sign a lease agreement after reaching a consensus, authorizing the collector to keep and exhibit the collections.
(6) Other means to reach a consensus as stipulated by laws and regulations.
4. Feedback
(1) Per the donor’s willingness, the collector will indicate their personal information when recording and displaying the collection files.
(2) The donor can contact the collector at any time to visit the collection, and the collector will provide collection-related materials at no charge.
(3) Donors can visit the exhibitions held by the China Great Wall Museum without making an appointment.
