A Project in Shijingshan District Receives 2022 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases

On the afternoon of December 13, the 2022 "Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases" International Sharing Forum wrapped up online. The World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (WHITR-AP) announced the finalists of the World Heritage Education Innovative Cases. Cultural Interpretation and Dissemination Strategies of RE International Center for Digital Creativity (China) was awarded the Star of Discovery. The award is given to projects that center on exploring in-depth value and model innovation and promoting collaborative and context-driven innovation between heritage sites and heritage education models. Thus, the winning projects can be regarded as typical innovative cases globally. 

In 2022, WHITR-AP received applications for more than 100 cases globally, including the "Parallel Spaces: Meet the Terracotta Warriors in Greece" Online Exhibition (Greece-China), Hadrian's Wall 1,900 Anniversary Festival (UK), and Smart Village Through Indigenous Knowledge and Fourth Industrial Revolution in South Africa (South Africa). Among all the cases, ten were awarded the Star of Outstanding, ten were awarded the Star of Discovery and ten were awarded the Star of Future, respectively.

RE International Center for Digital Creativity, established and operated by Beijing Qingrui Chuangyi Technology Culture Co., Ltd., is the world's first themed exhibition hall that is renovated from a derelict industrial site and focuses on combining cultural heritage and digital technologies. It is located in Shougang Park, Shijingshan District and was used as a silo for the iron-making process in the past. RE International Center for Digital Creativity preserves the industrial heritage well and has adopted advanced digital technologies and creative ideas to give a new and smart interpretation of old cultural heritage. The Center offers brand-new cultural experiences through practical research and value exploration, the center offers 720-degree immersive tours, glasses-free 3D, VR- and AR-powered digital interactive experiences, aiming to develop innovative strategies, which can improve the Center's interaction with its visitors and encourage them to explore and proactively promote cultural heritage, for the popularization of cultural heritage. Meanwhile, to promote the sustainable development of traditional culture and heritage, the Center, regarding culture as the key element of development, works with different fields and sectors in China and other countries to set up a global platform for diversified and open exchanges, coordination, and a shared future. Since opening to the public in July 2020, the Center has arranged four major exhibitions and opened two original courses based on world cultural heritage. It has also organized ten cultural events and three themed cultural forums and published 28 in-depth analyses. RE International Center for Digital Creativity has been awarded the titles of "Beijing Patriotic Education Base", "Outstanding Case of Protection of Renowned Historical and Cultural Beijing", "Application and Demonstration Base for High-tech Winter Olympics and Olympic Digital Museum", and "Exhibition, Sharing, Application and Demonstration Base for Digital Cultural Heritage of Central Axis in Beijing" successively.
