Lao She Theater (hereinafter referred to as the "Theater") recently opened inside the building complex of the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles located at No. 95 Qianmen West Street in Xicheng District, adding a new cultural landmark to the district.
With an area of 975 square meters and 300 seats, the Theater can be used as a venue for stage performances in the forms of theater, music, dance, etc., as well as film screenings. It is named after Lao She, the first president of the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles. As a tribute to this national pioneer of the arts, the Theater also symbolizes Beijing artists' unstopped sense of duty for the public.
The opening of the Theater is a concrete action taken by the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles for its cultural event "Grand Performances in Beijing" (大戏看北京).
