To satisfy the demand of major international events and an increasing number of foreigners in Beijing for police assistance in foreign languages, the 110 police hotline service center of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau works with the Multilingual Service Center of Beijing Foreign Studies University to innovate and improve the online foreign language service cooperative mechanism for answering and handling assistance requests, and further promote the use of foreign languages to support the police work.

In case of difficulties in the communication between the policemen and foreigners calling for assistance, online interpreting will be provided to help police accept and handle such foreign-related cases. A particular focus is being placed on the upcoming 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and other major international events of this kind, as the 110 police hotline service center in Beijing will arrange for volunteer interpreters to work along with operators to handle cases reported by foreigners. The number of languages available has been increased from the typical 8 to 21.
