Yanqi Lake lies at the foot of the Yanshan Mountains, right next to the Great Wall. It gets its name ("Yanqi" literally means "where wild geese rest") from the flocks of wild geese that stop here to rest during their spring and autumn migrations each year. The lake is a well-rounded scenic area centered on water. Fed by the upstream Lianhua Spring, the lake is crystal clear with a beautiful hue of emerald green, and the lakeside climate is mild and pleasant. Thanks to its excellent ecological environment, rare birds like swans and cranes are often seen playing on the lake, bringing energy to this area. The scenic area is divided into eastern and western sections, featuring a broad water surface with a storage capacity of 38.3 million cubic meters. The lake spans 230 hectares, with a 20-kilometer-long shoreline and a maximum depth of 25 meters. With its gentle terrain and vast waters, Yanqi Lake is ideal for both water and land-based recreational activities, earning its reputation as a popular tourist destination and water park on the outskirts of Beijing.
