The launch ceremony of the 2026 National Science Popularization Month in Beijing and the 16th Beijing Science Carnival will be held at Huairou Science City on September 4. Under the theme "Science and Technology Change Life, Innovation Shapes the Future" (科技改变生活 创新赢得未来), a wide range of activities will take place across the city, including science carnivals, science-themed garden events and science film screenings. A list of major science popularization activities across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region will be released at the launching ceremony.
During Science Popularization Month, several key laboratories and science outreach venues at Huairou Science City will open to the public, showcasing major original achievements in basic research and major scientific and technological infrastructure. The 16th Beijing Science Carnival and the 2026 Huairou District National Science Popularization Month Fair will also feature six themed exhibition zones at the Urban Living Room of Huairou Science City. The exhibitions will highlight advances in technological innovation and industrial technologies, commercial applications of new products, real-world applications of new technologies, and achievements in smart agriculture and rural sci-tech innovation.
During the period, Beijing will organize six categories of themed events tailored to the needs of different groups, including youth science education, science outreach at universities, and emergency preparedness and safety education. Member institutions of the "City of Science and Technology Museums" will jointly launch customized themed museum exploration routes, along with activities such as interactive science activities, educational fairs, and science experiment demonstrations.
The 2026 Beijing Social Science Popularization Week will also run from September 17 to 27. From September 20 to 24, the main venue at Ditan Park will host expert lectures and four themed exhibitions, alongside various public activities and eight experience zones. These will include intangible cultural heritage experiences and the "Jingcai Weilai–AI (Artificial Intelligence) Social Science Interactive Zone" (京彩未来·AI(人工智能)社科互动区). Satellite venues at municipal-level social science popularization bases will coordinate with the main venue to organize science popularization activities with local characteristics. Beijing will also work with Tianjin and Hebei to launch a series of joint science outreach activities across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
Science outreach will also be integrated into Beijing's parks. In late September, the "Jingcai Kepu" (京彩科普) Garden Party will be held at the Summer Palace, showcasing a series of cutting-edge technologies and offering science activities related to gardens and horticulture. During the Science Popularization Month, municipal parks in Beijing will hold 160 science popularization activities, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Garden Science Tour will also launch the "First Lesson of the New Semester" event, bringing children diverse science popularization courses and interactive activities on historic architecture, plant science, animal ecology and wetland conservation.
Beijing currently has 64 established public safety experience centers across all 16 districts. Residents can find information on the official website of the Beijing Emergency Management Bureau and contact individual venues to make reservations. Through simulations in real-world scenarios, hands-on exercises and emergency drills, visitors can learn practical skills in avoiding danger, escaping emergencies, protecting themselves and assisting others.
