On February 28, 2026, the Information Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality held a press conference on the construction of the 2026 Global Digital Economy Benchmark City.

The year 2025 marks the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan period and is a milestone year for Beijing as it works to become a benchmark city for the global digital economy. All districts and departments in Beijing have worked together to drive both quantitative and qualitative leaps in the construction of this global digital economy benchmark city. The city's added value in the digital economy exceeded 2.4 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.7 percent, growing by nearly 60 percent compared to 2020. The added value of the digital economy accounts for 46.4 percent of the city's GDP, up by 7.4 percentage points from 2020. Beijing ranked second in the 2025 Global Digital Economy Benchmark City Index, further enhancing its role as a trendsetter.
