On July 16, the 2024 International Symposium on Cultural Heritage Conservation by Digitization (CHCD 2024) kicked off at Zhongguancun International Innovation Center, Beijing. It brought together 308 representatives from 215 universities, cultural institutes, and sci-tech innovative enterprises across 20 countries and regions all over the world. Participants jointly discussed the high-quality development of cultural heritage conservation under the background of sci-tech innovation, focusing on new technologies and models of digital heritage. The China-Greek Joint Laboratory on Digital Heritage was formally signed during the opening event.

Under the theme "RE-shape: Digital Heritage Driven by Technological Innovation", the symposium has set multiple theme panels, including historical towns, artificial intelligence, digital cave temples, archaeological ruins, the Three Hills and Five Gardens, and four national panels featuring Greek, Canada, Republic of Korea, and Italy. These panels aim to broaden international collaboration and cultural exchanges in culture sectors. During the four-day symposium, more than 100 professional reports and cases covering 14 fields will be presented successively.

Firstly held in 2010, the CHCD has now become a global and open communication platform in the digital heritage field. Many attending experts believe that this year's symposium has provided precious opportunities to enhance the collaboration among different countries in digital heritage conservation. "The symposium has not only communicated the professional academic theories in the digital cultural heritage sectors but also shared various vivid cases on museum development and other topics. The abundance of research achievements has prompted me to consider how different countries should deepen their future collaboration and exchanges in the field of heritage conservation. These activities are of great significance in my view," said Hyeseung Shim, Senior Researcher at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
