The Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA), also known as Beijing E-Town (Yizhuang), is the only national-level economic and technological development zone in Beijing.
Construction of the area began in April 1992. In August 1994, it was approved by the State Council as a national-level economic and technological development area. In August 2002, the State Council approved an expansion of the zone to 46.8 square kilometers. On January 26, 2019, the Beijing municipal government decided to adjust the administrative system of the development area, authorizing it to undertake unified planning and development of Yizhuang New City, with a planned area of 225 square kilometers.
Located in the southeastern part of Beijing, the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area borders the South Fifth Ring Road to the north, with the Beijing–Shanghai Expressway running through the zone. It is approximately 25 kilometers from the Beijing Capital International Airport, 140 kilometers from Tianjin Port, 35 kilometers from the Beijing Daxing International Airport, and 110 kilometers from the Xiong'an New Area. Positioned at the core of the Capital Economic Circle, the area serves as a key hub along the Beijing–Tianjin urban development axis.
