On March 27, 10 major scientific and technological achievements were announced at the opening ceremony of the 2025 ZGC Forum Annual Conference. These include a transformative breakthrough in novel genomic technologies; a new gene therapy drug developed by a Beijing-based enterprise, which will unlock a new “vision” for the blind; and innovative AI applications that are empowering all sectors and industries in Beijing, leading the open-source trend to build an open innovation ecosystem.

Among the achievements announced, several significant breakthroughs are in the field of basic research, including the "artificial sun" sustaining a high-confinement plasma operation at 100 million degrees Celsius and 1,000 seconds; the High Energy Photon Source located in Huairou Science City, which has emitted its first beam of light; and a transcription factor imprinting technology based on deaminase, which equipped researchers with "ultra-clear microscopes" to decipher the functional information of the human genome.

AI is emerging as industries’ best partner in transformation. In the healthcare sector, AI can assist in disease diagnosis and treatment plan development. Regarding education, AI can provide personalized learning guidance, meeting students’ diverse needs. The newly released Beijing's Achievements in Innovative Application of AI showcase the city's cutting-edge innovation outcomes deeply empowered by AI, spanning areas such as materials, pharmaceuticals, finance, and more. These achievements also demonstrate applications of AI in a wide range of social service scenarios, such as healthcare, lifestyle, education, retail, and content creation.

Adhering to the principle of unrestricted open source, the ChainMaker having released 21 updates with over 3 million lines of source code that can be accessed and downloaded without restrictions. The Tiangong Open Source Initiative, leveraging the Tiangong robots, offers a foundational base for embodied intelligence research to Chinese universities, research institutions, and small and medium-sized startups. These are just part of the Beijing's Major Open-Source Achievements released this time. Open source has become a thriving movement in Beijing.
