Beijing's permanent residents at the end of 2022 was 21,843,000, a decrease of 43,000 from the end of the previous year. Among them, the urban population of Beijing was 19.128 million, accounting for 87.6 percent of the permanent residents; while the migrant population was 8.251 million, accounting for 37.8 percent of the permanent residents. The birth rate of permanent residents was 5.67 per thousand and the death rate was 5.72 per 1,000 people, with the natural growth rate at -0.05 per 1,000 people.

There were 260,000 new job opportunities in urban and rural areas throughout the year. The average surveyed unemployment rate in urban and rural areas for the year 2022 was 4.7 percent, falling into the range of annual control target.
