Normunds Kotans from Latvia is now a sliding sports expert with Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games (BOCOG) for the luge, bobsleigh and skeleton games.
Once a bobsleigh athlete of a Latvian team, Normunds continues his sporting life with the organization of sliding sports events after quitting his career as a professional athlete. He had worked for the Sochi Winter Olympic Games as the bobsleigh and skeleton sport manager, International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation as the sports and events director, and the PyeongChang Games as the operation manager of luge, bobsleigh and skeleton in Alpensia Sliding Centre.
In June, 2018, Normunds was invited and appointed as a foreign expert by BOCOG for his rich experience in event organization. He is responsible for the preparation of luge, bobsleigh and skeleton events in Beijing 2022, including the planning of venues, track construction and maintenance, and sport equipment and facilities, as well as the education of National Technical Officials. Apart from that, he also helps to train a large number of talents for event organization of luge, bobsleigh and skeleton sports in China.
Speaking of his feelings in China, Normunds mentions that everything is developing very fast in China. He also says that his colleagues at BOCOG are very open-minded for new ideas and it is easy to work with them. In terms of work, he persists in doing things up to the best standard and quality. He believes that it is important to follow the rules, always consider others' opinions, and find balance in all the things. Beijing 2022 Winter Games will be an unforgettable journey for him. He wishes that everyone coming to Beijing 2022 Olympics will be satisfied and happy. Normunds also expresses his love for China and hopes that he can continue to work in related areas of luge, bobsleigh and skeleton sports in China.
