If you are a foreign national of Chinese origin coming to Beijing for exchange activities related to science and technology, education, culture and health, please apply for visa extension and renewal by following steps.

► A valid passport or other international travel documents.

► A completed VISA APPLICATION FORM with a recent half-length, white background, bareheaded, full-faced 2-inch color photo. Please fill in the application form in black ink.

► The applicant's valid accommodation registration form obtained from a local police station or hotel of present residence.

► Supporting materials regarding identification of foreign nationals of Chinese origin as follows:

a. Applicants of former Chinese nationality shall provide the former personal ID card, domicile registration certificate, Chinese passport, certificate of the renunciation of Chinese nationality issued by the Ministry of Public Security, and other relevant materials.

b. Applicants with one or more parents who are foreign nationals of Chinese origin shall provide supporting materials relating to the former Chinese nationality of the parent(s), the applicant's birth certificate or equivalent document, and other relevant materials.

c. Applicants with one or more parents who are Chinese citizens shall provide the personal ID of the parent(s) with Chinese nationality, the applicant's birth certificate or equivalent document and other relevant materials.

► An Enterprise Business License or Registration Certificate of Permanent Representative Institution of Foreign (Regional) Enterprise of the host organization.

As for following applications, if the host organization has not changed since the original application, no Enterprise Business License or Registration Certificate of Permanent Representative Institution of Foreign (Regional) Enterprise is needed.

► A verification letter expressing consent for the visa application by the host and inviting organization providing true and correct details of the applicant's travel to China.

· The applicant shall complete a face-to-face interview. If the applicant is aged below 16 or above 60, faces travel inconveniences due to illness, etc., or is qualified as high-level or much-needed talents by the state, his/her host organization or a particular service agency may be arranged to submit the application on behalf of the applicant (a copy of the trustee's ID is required). However, if the Exit-Entry Administration Department notifies the applicant that an interview is necessary, the applicant must complete the interview in person.

· For the above-stated materials, all original documents must be verified and submitted with photocopies.

· Any application material in a foreign language (except English) should be translated into Chinese.

· Applicants who have not nullified China's household registration should only submit the application after cancelling their household registration.

· If the applicant is below 18 and applies for the first time, he/she should also submit his/her birth certificate or equivalent document, his/her parents' passports, permanent residence permits and other materials related to the identification of nationality.

· F visa holders may apply for an extension with a validity of up to 180 days.

· Applicants may apply for an F visa renewal with a validity of less than 5 years, a stay duration of less than 180 days, and zero or multiple entries. The cumulative duration of stay with a renewed visa may not exceed 1 year from the date of the latest entry into China.

· Applicants applying for the extension of the duration of stay shall file their applications at least 7 days prior to the end of the duration of stay indicated on their visa to an exit-entry administration body above the county level in the place they reside in..

· The validity period of the visa applied for by the applicant shall not exceed the validity period of his/her valid passport or other international travel documents.

· During the period in which the applicant’s passport or other international travel document is under legal custody, the applicant may, bearing the receipt notice of the application herein, reside legally within the territory of China.

· An exit-entry administration authority of a public security bureau may verify the purpose of the application through various means including interviews, telephone inquiries, and on-the-spot investigations.

· Decisions made by an exit-entry administration body of a public security bureau regarding rejected applications for extension, renewal or reissuance of ordinary visas, non-issuance of foreigners' stay or residence permits, or refusal to extend the duration of residence shall be final.
