If you are a Chinese of foreign nationality who has a doctoral degree or above and works in Beijing with an employment residence permit, you may apply for a permanent residence permit by following the steps below.
► 2 recently taken, white background, bareheaded, and front-facing 2-inch color photos as well as an digital photo (submitted by CD).
► A photocopy of valid foreign passport and employment residence permit the applicant applied for in Beijing.
► The applicants shall provide the certificate of eligibility for foreign settlement, the naturalization paper or the household certificate transcript, and the Chinese passport used for naturalization; or submit the original of the certificate for Chinese of foreign nationality issued by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality.
► A photocopy of education diploma and degree certificate (both shall be certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country or by a certification institution designated by the national education department).
► A photocopy of the certificate stating no criminal record in foreign countries (this includes all countries or regions that the applicant has resided in continuously for more than 2 years before the date of application) (the certificate shall be certified by the Chinese embassy (consulate) in that country, or be issued by the embassy (consulate) of that country in China, and the time the certificate is issued or certified shall be within 6 months prior to the date of application).
► A photocopy of the physical examination certificate issued by the health and quarantine department designated by the Chinese government or by a foreign medical institution certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country (the designated health and quarantine department in Beijing is the General Administration of Customs (Beijing) International Travel Health Care Center, and the certificate shall be issued within 6 months prior to the date of application).
► A photocopy of an individual tax payment certificate issued by the tax authority.
► A photocopy of the registration certificate of the employer. For an enterprise, the Duplicate of Business License shall be provided. For other entities, certificates such as the Legal Person Certificate for a Public Institution shall be provided. If the employer is a foreign-funded enterprise, the Approval Certificate for a Foreign-Funded Enterprise or the Recordation Receipt for the Formation of a Foreign-Funded Enterprise as well as the Recordation Receipt for the Alteration of a Foreign-Funded Enterprise from the enterprise shall be provided.
► The original employment certificate issued by the current employer.
► A photocopy of the Foreigner's Work Permit, the Alien Employment Permit or the Foreign Expert Certificate. The information on employer, position and personal details shall be consistent with those indicated on the employment certificate and other relevant certificates.
► The applicant's resume (from the age of 18 till now, the year and month shall be consecutive).

· Certificates issued by relevant foreign institutions shall be certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country.
· Materials in a foreign language must be translated into Chinese, and the translation company's official seal shall be affixed to the translation.
· The original must be reviewed before submitting a photocopy, and the photocopy shall be of A4 size.
· If applicants need to print their Chinese name on the "Green Card", they shall clearly indicate in the "Other Matters to be Explained" column on the application form.
· Applicants must first cancel their Chinese household registration (hukou) before applying.
