Beijing will further carry out 300 major projects in three categories in 2022, with 100 major projects for sci-tech innovation and high-end, precision, and sophisticated industries, 100 major infrastructure projects, and 100 major projects aimed at improving people's well-being. Total investment in these city-wide major projects stands at approximately CNY 1.2 trillion, with CNY 280.2 billion of investment to be completed within 2022.

100 major projects for sci-tech innovation and high-end, precision, and sophisticated industries

Beijing is stepping up efforts in building the city into an international center for innovation and an international center for consumption, as well as in developing the Integrated National Demonstration Zone for Opening up the Services Sector, the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone ("Two Zones"), and the digital economy. It will follow through the "Science + City" concept in building the Zhongguancun Science City, Huairou Science City, Beijing Future Science City, and Beijing Economic-technological Development Area (Three Cities and One Area) according to the highest standards. It will also seek to build an integrated circuit innovation hub integrating design, manufacturing, equipment and materials, a world-class innovation hub and incubator of intelligent connected vehicles. An array of industrial application scenarios and international industrial cooperation parks will be built. An investment of CNY 50.5 billion is planned for this year.

100 major infrastructure projects

Beijing will launch a number of supporting projects to serve key functional areas and industrial parks. This is to support the building of a modern Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei metropolitan area that integrates the Internet, the broadcasting and telecommunications networks, and the power grid while coordinating the development of stations and cities and connecting regional transportation infrastructure, thus driving the adjustment of the urban development framework and functional planning. An investment of CNY 63 billion is planned for this year.

100 major projects aimed at improving people's well-being

Beijing will improve people’s well-being with social services in seven aspects (namely, childcare, education, employment, medical services, elderly care, housing and social assistance) and meeting their expectations for a better life in five areas (which means one that is convenient and comfortable, with more choices, in a fair and safe society). A number of new projects for safeguarding energy security, repairing damages caused by flood, and supporting emergency logistics will be launched around the construction of a resilient and safe city. Beijing will stimulate the vitality of private investment by building more international hospitals and international schools and directing non-governmental capital at urban renewal projects. An investment of CNY 166.7 billion is planned for this year, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the total.

In the next step, Beijing will focus on key projects and promote steady growth in investment while doing its utmost to contain COVID-19. In doing so, the city will practically ensure tangible results from such projects for its citizens, and present the spirit and charm of the "Dual Olympic city" to the world in the year of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
