According to the 7th National Population Census, the population of Beijing reached 21,893,095 in 2020, accounting for 1.55 percent of China's total population, up 0.09 percent from 2010.

In terms of the ratio of males to females, males in Beijing accounted for 51.14 percent, and females 48.86 percent, which is in line with the national average.

Regarding the age structure, people aged 0-14, 15-59, and above 60 accounted for 11.84, 68.53, and 19.63 percent respectively of the overall population in Beijing.

China has conducted a national population census every 10 years since the 1990s.
