“Beijing - A Global City” Short Video Contest seeks outstanding short videos focusing on Beijing’s endeavors to support major diplomatic events in the city, improve its supportive facilities, attract high-end global resources, and foster an international service environment. Creators are encouraged to use short videos to encapsulate Beijing’s strides in building itself into a center for international exchanges from diverse perspectives, as the city embarks on the new journey toward Chinese modernization. The contest aims to present Beijing as a global city that is open, inclusive, creative and vibrant, with an attractive international environment for work and life.
II. Submission Period
Works may be submitted from the release date of the guidelines to November 15, 2024.
III. Eligible Participants
The contest is open to Beijing residents, foreigners working and living in Beijing, and institutions in the city. Participants can join the contest either individually or as part of a team.
1. Submissions should center around the theme “Beijing - A Global City” and must be original works that have not received awards in other competitions.
2. Submissions should not exceed five minutes in length and should have a minimum resolution of 1280*720. Files in the following formats are accepted: MPG, MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV, and MP4 .
3. Submissions should feature content that is wholesome, uplifting, and engaging.
4. Participants are responsible for any copyright-related matters concerning their work. The host may utilize their videos for non-profit promotion and display them publicly for an extended period, including on overseas social media platforms.
5. Submissions can be in any language. However, if a foreign language other than English is used, please provide Chinese subtitles.
Participants may submit video entries via Kuaishou, WeChat Channels or Douyin, with the hashtag #北京·国际范儿2024# (“Beijing - A Global City 2024”). Please email the original video file, video name and introductory text, and the creator’s information (name, organization and contact details) to the organizing committee at beijingvideos@cri.cn. VI. Evaluation, Awards and Promotion
1. Entries will be evaluated based on thematic relevance, creativity, innovation, artistic appeal and production quality. Awards include two First Prizes, five Second Prizes, 10 Third Prizes and 20 Excellence Prizes. Individual awards, including two Communication Awards, two Popularity Awards, two Visual Effects Awards, two Creativity Awards, and two Storytelling Awards, will be presented. In addition, Outstanding Instructor Awards and Outstanding Organization Awards (Honorary) will also be conferred.
2. Evaluation Criteria
l Content: thematic relevance, creativity, innovation, artistic appeal and production quality (evaluated by expert judges)
l Engagement: the number of views, likes, comments, shares, etc.
During the submission period, all participating works will be shared on the official accounts of “Beijing - A Global City” on Douyin, Kuaishou, and WeChat Channels. Users of these platforms can cast their votes by liking their preferred works. The tentative closing date for voting is November 20, 2024.
3. Awards
The host will award certificates and provide production grants to the creators of winning works, with a grant of CNY 10,000 for each First Prize, CNY 6,000 for each Second Prize, CNY 2,000 for each Third Prize, CNY 1,000 for each Excellence Prize, and CNY 1,000 for each individual award. All the mentioned amounts are pre-tax.
4. Promotion
Winning entries will be promoted extensively on the official websites, WeChat accounts, and other social media accounts of the host and the organizer.
5. The list of winners will be publicized on the official websites of Beijing Foreign Affairs Office and CRI Online, among other official channels.
