Under the theme of "Wonders of TCM Catching the Eyes of the World", the 80 sqm traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture exhibition area in Yanqing Winter Olympic Village served as an important area for demonstrating the wonders of TCM to the world. The exhibition area has been widely recognized by visitors for the TCM information on display, as well as its diversified interaction methods and innovative design.
A TCM experience hall was set up, allowing visitors to absorb TCM knowledge in just 10 seconds. With 3D images of main and collateral channels, visitors could get detailed knowledge of a single acupoint or main and collateral channel and gain a deep understanding of different TCM terms, such as Jing (the essence of human development), Qi (life energy), Shen (vitality), main and collateral channels, and inner organs.
The most attractive part for foreign athletes was the "Kungfu" interaction area where the traditional Chinese healthcare exercise "Wuqinxi" (Five-Animal Exercise) was displayed on the screen. It allowed the athletes to follow the movements on the screen to experience the charm of traditional healthcare exercises. Many athletes posted photos or videos from their interactive "Kungfu" experiences online to show their followers, making the venue popular on social media.
In the exhibition of ancient TCM books and texts, ancient works such as Huangdi Neijing (The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine), Bencao Gangmu (Compendium of Materia Medica) and Shanghan Zabing Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases) revealed the excellence of TCM to the world.
The setting of the exhibition areas and experience halls of TCM was a special arrangement for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. It has been reported that it was the first time TCM culture was exhibited in a world competition of this level.
During the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, acupuncture, traditional massage, and other forms of TCM were applied and contributed greatly to the health and healing of the athletes, helping them alleviate their tiredness.
