Changping District, located in the northwest of Beijing, covers an area of 1,342 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 2.27 million. In terms of resource endowment, it mainly has five distinctive characteristics. The first is rich cultural heritage. Changping has a profound cultural history, with more than 2,000 years of establishment since its naming as a county in the Western Han Dynasty. It is the only area in Beijing where three cultural belts intersect and has three cultural world heritage sites: the Ming Tombs, the Juyongguan Great Wall, and the source of the Grand Canal. This has earned Changping the reputation of being the "Pillow of the Capital." The second is its good ecological environment. Changping District is backed by the Yanshan Mountains in the north and faces the Taihang Mountains in the west. It has a warm zone in front of the mountains that stretches for hundreds of li. The forest coverage rate and afforestation rate are 48.7 percent and 67.2 percent respectively. It serves as an ecological barrier in the northwest of the capital and is also the source of the Wenyu River, the mother river of Beijing. The third is the rich scientific and educational resources. Changping gathers the main and branch campuses of 41 key universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Beihang University. It has 56 national and provincial key laboratories and 210 engineering and technology centers, with more than 40,000 scientific researchers. The fourth is the well-developed transportation network. Six expressways and seven metro lines run through Changping's urban area, and it takes only 30 minutes by car from Changping to the Capital Airport. The fifth is the abundant development space. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Changping will gradually supply more than 666.66 hectares of industrial land, including research and production land, completed commercial buildings, and planned logistics land, to meet various needs of companies such as office research and development, pilot production, and warehousing sales. In recent years, our Changping District has been resolutely implementing the central and municipal party committee's decision-making arrangements. It focuses on serving the development of the capital in the new era, and strives to create a new growth pole for the development of the capital. In the first half of the year, the district's GDP reached CNY 63.29 billion, with a growth rate of 6.5 percent. Key economic indicators such as value-added industrial output and fixed asset investment in large-scale industries ranked among the top in the city, reflecting a stable and positive economic performance.
