Beijing China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone is China's first international cooperation demonstration zone focused on innovation. Officially approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, it is built under the guidance and support by the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality. The Demonstration Zone plays a crucial role in Beijing's development as a national comprehensive demonstration zone for opening up the service sector and a pilot free trade zone. It is also a key project of Beijing for the 14th Five-Year Plan period. The Demonstration Zone is managed and operated by the Management Committee of the Beijing China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone and Beijing Daxing International Business Services Co., Ltd.
The China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone is designed to launch pilot projects focused on the international-standard protection of intellectual property rights and alignment with the global innovation system. It plans to establish an international innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem that centers on scientific and technological advancement. Operating within the RCEP framework, the Demonstration Zone aims to facilitate the smooth flow of international talent, technology, capital, information, and other key resources. Additionally, it strives to become a hub for international innovation coordination and industrial cooperation and development, serving as a new platform for two-way exchanges and collaboration, a new model for innovative development and cooperation, a new cluster for high-end industries, and a new center for reform and opening up in Beijing.

The China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone is situated in the heart of the southern plain of Beijing, near the Beijing Daxing International Airport, which offers convenient access to major cities worldwide. Covering a total planned area of approximately 10 square kilometers, the Demonstration Zone provides substantial development space, platforms, and opportunities for various innovation-driven enterprises. It features about 4 square kilometers of industrial land, over 2 million square meters of high-standard commercial office buildings, and over 3 million square meters of standard factories for high-end R&D and production. Such an impressive capacity enables the Demonstration Zone to meet the diverse needs of enterprises and support their high-quality development.

As a key project backed by Beijing, the China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone is dedicated to supporting innovation-driven small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It aims to cultivate an industrial innovation cluster centering on such sectors as medicine and healthcare, advanced intelligent manufacturing, and digital economy. It is crucial for Beijing's development as an international center for science and technology innovation and a hub for international exchanges. The Demonstration Zone strives to develop a green urban micro-center that provides a livable and business-friendly environment for specialized and sophisticated SMEs, "Little Giant" enterprises, “Hidden Champion” enterprises, and international talent.
With a focus on specialized and sophisticated SMEs, the China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone is moving faster to attract businesses in the three core industries, namely medicine and healthcare, advanced intelligent manufacturing, and digital economy. As of today, it has secured over 400 key projects and attracted more than 100 foreign-funded enterprises to set up operations here. Among them are nearly 50 enterprises and institutions with Japanese background, including ITOCHU Textile, the textile division of the Fortune Global 500 ITOCHU Corporation; Minophagen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a renowned Japanese pharmaceutical company specializing in liver disease treatment; and RIZAP, a well-known high-end fitness and body sculpting brand.
The China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone aims to serve as a new platform for two-way exchanges and collaboration, a new model for innovative development and cooperation, a new cluster for high-end industries, and a new center for reform and opening up in Beijing. The Demonstration Zone is poised to become an international demonstration zone for collaborative innovation in science and technology and for industrial cooperation and development. Ultimately, it seeks to become an international smart city application demonstration site. The site will highlight three major industrial clusters—medicine and healthcare, advanced intelligent manufacturing, and digital economy—while integrating diverse generic technologies across sectors and leveraging modern services.
1/ A Center for Cutting-Edge Industries
The China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone integrates the interactive and complementary strengths of Chinese and Japanese resources and makes the most of Beijing's leading capabilities in scientific and technological innovation. Based on the international aviation hub in Daxing, the Demonstration Zone aims to establish an international digital cloud corridor that highlights the three major industrial clusters of medicine and healthcare, advanced intelligent manufacturing, and digital economy, promotes the cross-sector integration of diverse generic technologies, and leverages modern services. These will make the Demonstration Zone a model for international innovation coordination and industrial cooperation and development.

The China-Japan Innovation & Cooperation Demonstration Zone hosted Beijing's first circuit court for intellectual property claims and ranked second in Beijing’s 2022 list of exemplary workstations for public intellectual property services. In addition, it is the only project in Daxing District to be included in Beijing's third group of reform and innovation projects for the purpose of building the city into a national comprehensive demonstration zone for opening up the service sector and a pilot free trade zone. Also, it has been recognized by the city as a demonstration platform for public services for SMEs. Adhering to world-class standards, the Demonstration Zone seeks to establish a leading demonstration zone for industry-city integration that features international elements, cultural diversity, a livable living environment, and all-round public services.
