Hello. After obtaining a temporary driver's license in China, can foreigners drive only within Beijing, or is it valid in other cities as well?
+

Hello! The Motor Vehicle Administration Office of the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau replies as follows.

According to the Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving Licenses (Order No. 90 of the Ministry of Public Security) (《机动车驾驶证申领和使用规定》(公安部90号令)), any foreigner temporarily staying in China who wish to drive a rented vehicle must apply for a temporary driving permit from the local traffic management authority where the rental company is located. The temporary driving permit allows its holder to drive small passenger cars and small automatic cars. Each permit is valid for three months, or for the approved stay duration of the holder (even if the holder's stay period exceeds three months; the maximum validity period is no more than 1 year). During this period, you can enter and exit China multiple times without needing to reapply.

To apply for a temporary driving permit, you must visit a service office with the following materials:

Exit-entry document: a valid passport or any other entry-exit document, a valid visa or residence permit, or a Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card. (If you have entered China visa-free, a valid passport or any other entry-exit document is sufficient.)

Valid foreign driver's license (temporary, learner's, or provisional licenses are not accepted). Licenses not in Chinese require an official or notarized translation into Chinese.

Two recent one-inch color passport photos with a white background.

Service Location:

The Motor Vehicle Management Office of the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau (including its branch offices), the Vehicle Management Service Station of Terminal 3 of Beijing Capital International Airport, the Vehicle Management Service Station of Beijing Daxing International Airport.

Foreigners aged 70 or older must apply at the Motor Vehicle Management Office of the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau and pass memory, judgment, and reaction tests.

Hey, can I buy a transportation card that two people can use at the same time, or do we each need to buy one separately? Thanks.
+

Hello! After checking, due to Beijing's segmented fare system and the regulations for using Beijing's public transportation card, each passenger needs to have his/her own card (both when boarding and alighting or when entering and exiting subway stations). To avoid any inconvenience, please make sure that your card has enough balance. Thank you for using and supporting the Beijing Municipal Transportation Card. If you have more questions, you can reach us through our customer service hotline at 010-96066, our official WeChat account "Beijing Municipal Transportation Card" (北京市政交通一卡通), or the "Beijing Yikatong" (北京一卡通) App. Our customer service team will be happy to help you.
