Foreign nationals applying for visas from a port visa authority must submit their passports or other international travel documents with any other relevant materials and enter China from the port where they have applied for their visas after submitting the applicable fees established by the state.

Scope of application:

Foreign nationals seeking expedited entry for humanitarian reasons, invited on urgent business or engineering repairs, or seeking entry for some other reason of special urgency and who are in possession of support materials provided by the relevant authorities supporting their application for entry may apply to an agency authorized by the Ministry of Public Security at any eligible port of entry approved by the State Council.

Foreign members of entrepreneurial teams of Zhongguancun Science Park and talented individuals employed by enterprises in Zhongguancun Science Park unable to obtain a work permit due to time limitations may apply for a talent visa at the port of entry with an invitation letter from the head of the entrepreneurial team or enterprise.

International students of overseas colleges and universities invited to participate in an internship at an enterprise in Zhongguancun Science Park registered with the Exit-Entry Administration of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau may apply for a short-term private (annotated with "internship") visa at an authorized port agency.

Foreign nationals recognized by the the competent departments of Beijing for human resources, senior professional in a certain industry, who is employed by an enterprise recognized by the competent departments of Beijing for scientific and technological innovation, or other high-level talent invited by the host unit certifying their status may apply for a talent visa at the authorized agency at any port of entry.

Foreign nationals with work permits issued by the departments for human resources, social security and/or foreign expert affairs may apply for a work-type residence permit for a validity period of no more than one year or a work visa at the authorized agency at any port of entry.

Foreign nationals planning to invest, innovate, or start a business in Beijing and unable to obtain a work permit due to time limitations may apply for a private visa at the authorized agency at any port of entry with proof of investment, business plan, and/or proof of source of income.
