The musical Romance of the Western Chamber by the Xinyi Opera Club, starring Liu Yan and Xu Yao, will be restaged at the Tianqiao Theater on March 20 and 21, as stated in a recent arts sharing event held in Beijing.

The musical is adapted from a classic play originally composed by Wang Shifu in the thirteenth century, and first premiered in Beijing in November 2019. It was directed by Zhao Yongbin, an instructor and musical director of the Department of Musical Theatre, the Central Academy of Drama, and starred by Liu Yan and Xu Yao. The starring partners are expected to come back and play Zhang Sheng and Cui Yingying respectively on the stage.

The musical will be performed in Beijing for two days, with three shows, said Zhang Yahong, general manager of Xinyi Opera Club and operator of this musical. Later, the cast of the musical will present over ten shows in Shanghai and other cities on a national tour.
