The 10th World Radar Expo is underway in Beijing. Sponsored by the Central Military Commission, it's China's only professional radar industry exhibition. The bi-annual event was launched in 2001 and has become an important platform for international scientific and technological cooperation. As You Yang reports, it's also a place to see some impressive technology.

A mobile guidance and surveillance radar, the millimetre wave corner reflector, and a device to intercept and jam communications.

Just some of the cutting-edge equipment on show at the World Radar Expo in Beijing.

ZHENG YI Deputy General Manager, Glarun Defense System Co. Nanjing(CETC) "The YLC-2E S-band multi-function radar is making its debut at this year's exhibition. This is one of the most advanced anti-stealth radars made by the China Electronics Technology Group]. It is used to detect stealth aircraft. And we have also applied AI technology in developing this product. During detection, it can carry out some control processes autonomously."

In addition to military application, the technologies on display are also used in intelligent transport, meteorological research, disaster prevention and in the medical field.

YOU YANG Beijing "The 'LinkSense Hand' is an intelligent prosthetic limb that can be controlled using the 'mind'. It's based on radar technology and can translate human body movements into signals that control the robot hand."

YIN KUIYING Chief Expert, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation "The 'LinkSense Hand' is a wearable device. Patients do not need to undergo any surgery. The amputee can wear it like a glove. We have an example of an amputee who lost his hand 53 years ago, and it took him only an afternoon to get used to the 'LinkSense Hand'. In fact, an international standard regarding to smart wearable device has been set up based on this product. This is actually the first, and the only international standard within the smart wearable device production field in China."

And what about the weather radar? Some perform three-dimensional scans of typhoon, thunderstorm and other weather phenomena in a short time, helping provide forecasts used in disaster prevention work. The World Radar Expo is China's largest professional radar industry exhibition. Authorities hope the event can help build international cooperation and exchanges, while boosting the industry's development.
